When you send your loved one to a nursing home facility in Alabama, you are entrusting the care, safety, health and wellbeing of your family member to staff that has received training to help them provide undivided care to each resident in their establishment. Unfortunately, there may be times when you feel the need to complain about the service that has been received. However, before doing so, there are things that you can do to prevent causing unnecessary tension that may result from a false accusation.

According to AARP, one of the best things that you can do from the day you move your loved one into the facility is to become actively involved. Visit often and get to know the other residents, as well as the nursing staff. Develop good relationships with the people who are caring for your loved one. Be an active participant in your loved one’s health and in making decisions that will affect his or her experience in the nursing home.

If you are concerned about something or your family member has brought an issue to your attention, spend some time investigating the incident by yourself before filing a complaint. If you have the option to attend essential meetings regarding your loved one’s care, take full advantage and consider raising your questions and concerns in this type of controlled environment where organizational leaders will most likely be in attendance. Lastly, observe your surroundings each time that you visit. If you notice an extreme lapse in care, immediately report it to the appropriate authorities.
