Injuries that often result from motorcycle crashes

If you are among the many Alabama residents who enjoy traveling by motorcycle, you may choose to do so because it is fuel efficient and enjoyable. It is also highly dangerous to travel by bike, and this is due in large part to the fact that you have virtually no protection between yourself and the roadway, vehicles and other obstructions. At the Sapp Law Firm, we have a firm understanding of the types of injuries that often result following motorcycle crashes, and we have helped many clients seek recourse after involvement in such crashes.

Per LiveStrong.com, about 80 percent of all motorcycle crashes cause injuries and deaths, with some types of injuries resulting much more frequently than others. Head and brain injuries, for example, are especially common among motorcycle riders involved in accidents, but there are steps you can take to reduce your risk. Wearing a helmet every time you ride your bike can reduce your risk of a head injury by as much as 35 percent.

Bone fractures, too, commonly result from motorcycle crashes. Broken legs are the most commonly seen injury among hospitalized motorcycle crash victims, with many such cases resulting after a bike falls over on a rider’s leg. Fractured shoulders, pelvises, wrists and arms are also common among motorcycle riders.

While head injuries and bone fractures are common and often highly serious injuries suffered by motorcyclists, you may also suffer injuries as a motorcycle rider that result from a failure to wear adequate protective gear and clothing. Road rash can develop if you fall off your bike and have exposed skin, and the condition can range in severity from relatively minor to quite serious. More information about motorcycle accidents is available on our web page.
