How to avoid toxic substance injury in the workplace

Industrial workers face some peculiar challenges due to their work environment and its elevated dangers. Accidents involving toxic substances are just one of many issues that a worker should be prepared to handle. Fumes, particles and chemicals can all create unique dangers, and knowing what to do in an accident scenario could save a life.

What are the dangers of a side-impact collision?

The side-impact collision, also known as a T-bone or a broadside collision, is one of the most potentially damaging accidents that a driver can get into due to the location of the strike. Whether it takes place on the driver side or the passenger side, the angle of impact could end with the driver suffering from a number of short and long term injuries.

Properly initiating workers’ compensation claim submissions

Many of the clients who come to us here at the Sapp Law Firm with work-related injuries have a number of misconceptions about the availability of workers' compensation. They often see statistics such as those shared by the U.S. Department of Labor showing that the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs in Alabama has paid out over $58 million in compensation benefits and medical bills and mistakenly think that securing such a benefit is easy. What they may not understand is that insurers and compensation funds don’t stay in business by paying on every claim they receive. Rather, they view the entire claim process with a great deal of scrutiny. One area that serves as the basis for many denials is in the claim submission process.

What can drivers do to safely share the roads with semi-trucks?

Every day in Alabama, and all across the U.S., drivers of small passenger vehicles share the roads with large tractor-trailers. Since semi-trucks can be 20 to 30 times heavier than other autos, it can be very serious when they are involved in collisions. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 100,000 people were injured in accidents involving semi-trucks in 2012. That is the most recent year for which statistics are available. In that same year, nearly 4,000 people were killed in truck accidents. While some crashes cannot be prevented, there are some steps that motorists can take to safely share the roads with truckers.
