Nursing home residents in Jasper, and elsewhere, can include people of all ages who, to some level or another, are unable to care for themselves. This can be for any number of reasons, including medical conditions or mental illness. Often, they, or their families, make the decision to live in a nursing home to ensure that their needs are met and they receive the care they require. As a result, nursing home neglect can be a very serious issue, with potentially fatal consequences.
According to reports, it appears that the recent death of an Indiana man may have been caused by neglect. The 43-year-old man, who had been living at a nursing home, was taken to a local hospital where he passed away. While no specific details were disclosed regarding the man's condition or his exact cause of death, a nurse reportedly indicated that he had been "severely neglected".
Indiana's Adult Protective Services, in conjunction with the Seymour Police Department are investigating the man's death. A Family and Social Services Administration spokesperson indicated that the investigation is being considered as a criminal matter. As for the nursing care facility's part, the administrator denies that any neglect took place.
