Husband claims nursing home neglect caused his death of his wife

In Jasper, and elsewhere, people are often admitted to nursing facilities. They may be admitted for any number of reasons, including injury or illness. Depending on their health and conditions, some residents may require a significant amount of attention and care, which families depend on nursing home staff to provide. In some cases, failure to provide adequate care can result in patients suffering personal injury, or their existing conditions being worsened.

A woman in West Virginia was reportedly admitted to Teays Valley Center, a nursing home, in June of 2012 for rehabilitation. The specific injury or condition that the woman was rehabilitating was not disclosed, however, it was reported that she also required help with her daily activities. According to reports, the woman died in September of 2012, her husband claims, as a result of serious injuries that she suffered due to nursing home neglect. She purportedly fell multiple times while at the facility.

The woman’s husband reportedly filed a lawsuit against the nursing home and its parent company recently. In his lawsuit, it was reported, the man claims that abuse, neglect and poor care by the facility contributed to his wife’s death. He alleges that the facility was not adequately staffed to meet the needs of the facility’s residents and that it lacked enough supplies. Additionally, the man argues that neither he, nor his wife, was kept accurately informed about her condition and overall health status. He is reportedly seeking an unknown sum of damages resulting from medical and funerary expenses, as well as the loss of his wife’s companionship and his pain and suffering.

People who feel their loved ones may have been the victims of nursing home neglect might consider discussing their situation with a legal professional to understand their rights and options.
