Accidents involving large commercial vehicles are often the most horrific and catastrophic. The drivers and passengers of other vehicles have very little protection against the force and velocity that a semi-truck carries. If a pedestrian or bystander is involved, it is almost certain that the semi-truck accident will be fatal.
An unfortunate truck accident at an Alabama landfill left one truck driver dead and another facing vehicular homicide charges. The deceased was a private contractor who was dumping garbage at the landfill when the accident occurred. He had stepped out of the cab of his semi-truck and was closing the door when another tractor trailer hit him, pinning him between the two trucks. The driver of the second truck faces reckless driving charges in addition to the vehicular homicide charges as a result of the subsequent police investigation.
In addition to criminal charges, the driver at fault could also face a lawsuit in civil court. It is unknown if the family of the deceased plans to pursue a wrongful death suit, but if so, they could be entitled to compensation. Others who have been injured or lost a loved one in an accident involving large commercial vehicles may also be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses or lost wages. They may want to consult with an attorney regarding the specifics of their case to learn more about their legal rights. Truck accident claims are more complex than other wrongful death claims, and it could be beneficial to have an experienced lawyer on your side.
