Patient at Alabama nursing home given wrong medication

The elder advocacy group, Families for Better Care, has worked to bring elder abuse and neglect into the national spotlight in an attempt to improve care for senior citizens. According to their ranking system, Alabama nursing homes have reported improvements over the past year, adding more direct care and professional nurse staffing. However, employing a higher number of nursing home staff is not a guarantee of quality care.

Speed-related crashes may be considered driver negligence

In Alabama and across the nation, speeding is consistently one of the top causes of auto accident fatalities. According to the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Laws and Ordinances, a car crash is considered speed related if law enforcement indicated on the accident report that the driver exceeded the posted speed limit, was engaged in a race with another vehicle, or drove at speeds that were unsafe for road conditions. In 2013, more than 29 percent of all traffic fatalities in Alabama were speed related.

Alabama mother seeks legislative support for drowsy driving bill

According to the National Sleep Foundation, a person who has been awake for 18 hours has the same level of mental impairment as a person with a .05 percent blood alcohol content. At 24 hours awake, the impairment correlates to a .10 percent BAC. The ability to process information and react is significantly affected at this level of impairment. In spite of the dangers, there is currently no law against drowsy driving in Alabama.

Are nursing home residents’ nutritional needs being met?

When you have a loved one in a nursing home in Jasper or Walker, Alabama, you want to know that the meals, snacks and drinks being provided are adequate sources of nutrition. The Alabama State Board of Health requires nursing home facilities to serve residents a nutritional diet that is prepared properly, visually appealing, tasteful and suited to meet individual needs. Your loved one must also be offered substitutes that are equally nutritious if the meal is not personally appealing.
