Jonathan was born in Gadsden, Alabama on November 28, 1971, and graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 1990. From there, he went on to The University of Alabama where he received his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in psychology and minoring in biology.

He is an active member of the Walker County Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation and the Alabama Association for Justice (where he serves as a Sustaining Member and on the Executive Committee).
